All suite must have:

Legalizing Existing Suite


A suite might be deemed pre-existing and requiring legalization if the following conditions are met:


  • The suite encompasses amenities such as a bathroom, cooking facilities, and sleeping or living spaces.
  • The suite has an entrance accessible from the exterior, allowing entry without traversing through the primary dwelling unit. (Shared stairwells are allowable, but each unit must possess a private entrance.)
  • The suite was constructed prior to March 12, 2018.
  • The suite is situated within the same building as the primary residence and is not in a detached garage.
